The Last Easter Egg
Written and Illustrated by S.B. Dow

Front cover.

Back cover.

It’s Easter time! All of the Easter Bunny’s helpers are singing and hopping about as they gather their eggs and get their Easter Baskets ready.

Every bunny had worked hard, especially Jack. He always made sure he had enough Easter Eggs for each boy and girl on his list.

But when Jack opened up his locker, it was empty! He knew they were gone because bunnies have good eyesight from eating so many carrots.

Jack was very confused. “Maybe I delivered them to the Easter Bunny already.” He thought to himself.

Jack checked the calendar and learned that the delivery date to the Easter Bunny was two days away.

” Then where are my eggs?” Jack cried out.

” Wait!” Jack said to himself. “Maybe I forgot to pick them up from the Dye House.” He shook his head as he thought. “Boy am I a dumb bunny!”

Without wasting a moment, Jack dashed off to the Dye House to collect his eggs./div>

So fast did Jack run that when he entered the Dye House he almost ran into the Dye Master, Johnny ShortEars. “I’ve come to pick up my eggs.” Jack panted from being out of breath.

Johnny ShortEars was not happy. “Is this some kind of joke?” He growled. “You are the tenth bunny today who has come here looking for his eggs! I don’t have anyone’s eggs and I don’t think this joke is funny!”

” I’m not playing a joke on you. My egg box was empty so I thought I forgot to pick them up from you.” Jack explained.

” Well you didn’t leave them here, and neither did…”

But Jack did not wait to hear the rest of what Johnny ShortEars had to say. He turned and ran from the Dye House. Where were his eggs? He had to find them!

He looked in the Chicken House...

He looked under rocks! But he could not find his eggs anywhere!

Jack soon found himself back at the Helper Bunny House but his locker was still empty. Looking down he spied the egg he brought with him. “At least I still have this one.” He sighed.

Just as he was about to pick up the egg he heard a voice call out from behind him.

It was Harry Bunny, one of BunnyLand’s police officers. “What are you doing with that egg?” Harry growled.

” It’s my egg.” Jack said. “I was going to put into my locker, but found that all my other eggs were gone!

” So yours are missing to!” Harry said. “I think someone is stealing them!”

While Jack and Harry were talking, a yellow hand reached in through a hole in the Helper Bunny House and grabbed Jack’s last egg.

” My egg! My last egg is missing!” Jack cried out.

Buck, standing outside the Bunny Helper House is startled as a voice calls out behind him.

” Hey you! Stop! Drop that egg!” Harry and Jack shouted as they both pointed at Buck.

” No!” Buck said.

” We’re out of Easter eggs! The chickens have no more! I’m taking them and hiding them so children in the future will have eggs!” Buck explained. Then before Harry of Jack could stop him, Buck picked up the egg and ran away. To this day no one has ever found Buck.
